Cinema Vérité to focus on Chile documentaries

The 14th Cinema Vérité is to review Chilean documentary cinema.

The 14th edition of Cinema Vérité, Iran’s major documentary festival, has scheduled to hold a special program to review Chile documentary cinema.

A lineup of the selected documentaries from Chilean filmmakers will be screened and reviewed by critics and film experts, the main organizers of the event, announced on Sunday.

Chilean documentaries have been screened at the various categories of previous editions of the festival.

‘The City of Photographers’ (La Ciudad de los Fotógrafos) by Sebastian Moreno competed in the 1st edition of the Cinema Vérité in 2007 and won best feature documentary award.

The film is a photographic denunciation of Pinochet's dictatorship brilliantly captured by the photography and the camera work of David Bravo and Sebastian Moreno.

The 9th Cinema Vérité festival also screened ‘Beyond My Grandfather Allende’ by Chilean filmmaker Marcia Tambutti Allende in the international competition.

The movie is about the Chilean physician and politician Salvador Guillermo Allende Gossens, who is better known as the first Marxist to become president of a Latin American country through open elections.

Earlier, the Cinema Vérité organizers announced that it will review a selection of documentaries praised at 2020 edition of several international events during a special section titled “World’s Best”.

This year, the event has also dedicated a special section to screen documentaries on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organizers of the festival have received more than 130 submissions on the pandemic in the COVID-19 category.

The top works in this category will be honored at the closing ceremony, while the international section of the festival is non-competitive this year.

The 14th edition of the Cinema Vérité will be held online due to the coronavirus outbreak in December 2020.
